The National Advanced Energy Storage Innovation Center, hereinafter referred to as the “Energy Storage Innovation Center,” was jointly promoted and established by the Guangdong Provincial Government together with China Southern Power Grid. It was approved for establishment by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in December 2024. Headquartered in Baiyun District, Guangzhou, it is the only national-level manufacturing innovation center in China’s new energy storage field and the first innovation center led by an enterprise from the industrial application side.
The National Innovation Center operates under a "Company + Alliance" model. Guangdong National Advanced Energy Storage Research Institute Co., Ltd. is jointly established by 13 leading enterprises across the upstream and downstream of the advanced energy storage industry, including China Southern Power Grid Technology Co., Ltd., Datang Group, China Southern Power Grid Energy Storage Co., Ltd., and EVE Energy Co., Ltd.
The National Innovation Center focuses on large-scale energy storage technologies and equipment featuring high capacity, high safety, long lifespan, and high efficiency. It encompasses five major fields—electrochemical energy storage, mechanical energy storage, superconducting energy storage, thermal energy storage, and hydrogen energy storage—as well as three supporting large-scale technologies: whole-process safety, precision energy management and control, and innovative intelligent regulation. The Center is dedicated to carrying out R&D on key common technologies, technology transfer and diffusion, and first-time commercial application of innovations.
